Travel Guide to Puri - The Perfect Holiday Destination

Puri is one of the best tourist locations in India that has always been the favorite of all tourists and is better known for its beautiful beaches and historical temples. Puri is situated in the state of Orissa in the coastline, from where the beautiful view of Bay of Bengal can be seen. As compared to other beach locations in India, Puri is very beautiful and yet cheaper for tourists visiting the place.


How to Reach Puri:
The nearest airport to Puri is at Bhuwaneshwar from where it takes around 2 hours journey by Road. Buses and trains are also available from the city of Kolkata to Puri. Puri is well connected with roads and railways so the route to Puri is connected very well from important cities.

Places to Visit in Puri:
As mentioned earlier, Puri is well known for its beautiful beaches and while in Puri you should always visit the beaches, specially the Golden Beach of Puri which is famous for its white sands and the view of the deep blue sea. There are plenty of other beaches too in Puri. For instance, one could try taking a look over the silent lonely beaches at the Puri Konark Marine Drive where the crowd is very less and is peaceful.
The Sun temple at Konark is a world heritage site and is very near to Puri and the tourists visiting Puri should not miss this at all. There are tour packages available for tour to Konark, and its temples and the beaches over there. Puri is also very close to the Chilka Lake, which is indeed the largest lagoon in Asia. Chilka lake is a home to hundreds of migratory and home birds and is now declared as a bird sanctuary. Chilka lake also has numerous islands with lush green forests. Special tours are arranged by the Odhishan State Tourist Counter at nominal rates from Puri, which makes the travel easy, comfortable and cheap.

Tourists can always pay their respect to god at various temples at Puri, notably the Jagannath templewhich has a huge history and is a beautiful piece of architecture. Pipla is a place close to Puri famous for its beautiful handicrafts and tourists are seen flocking in these places for those beautiful handicrafts.

Where to Stay in Puri:
There are hotels available in Puri in plenty. Hotels from star categories, to deluxe rooms and economical ones are available. Most overseas tourists prefer to stay at C.T. Road. Cheap hotels are mostly available at Swargadwar. Hotel Sea Queen Inn at Chakratirth Road and Hotel Sairam which is just 10 metres away from the Golden Beach of Puri are the best hotels that provides the best service at very cheap rates.

Safety Measures:
While your visit in Puri, it is always recommeneded to be safe. Do not indulge in junk sea food that is available in the food stalls near the beaches as those are not hygenic and may cause trouble to the health. Puri doesn't have good hospitals and it is always recommended to the tourists to carry important medicines with them. The temples around Puri are full of touts that take money from tourists in the name of offerings for god so also be careful from them. A journey should be a memorable and enjoyable one but while having all the fun, be safe and maintain safety too.
