Travel to Sikkim - The Switzerland of the East in India

 Sikkim, originally known as Suk Hem, which in local language means 'peaceful home', Sikkim was an independent kingdom till the year 1974, when it became a part of India. The capital of this hot tourist spot state is Gangtok, a beautiful hill station, located approximately 185 kilometers from New Jalpaiguri, the nearest railway station to the state of Sikkim, for those who are travelling by train. Although an airport is under construction in East Sikkim, the nearest airport now to Sikkim would be Bagdogra International Airport, for who travel by plane.
     Sikkim is the land of Orchids and mystic culture and colourful tradition. This state sikkim is well known among trekkers and adventure lovers, as West Sikkim has a lot to give them. The third highest mountain peak in the world, the Kanchenjunga is present here, in the Himalayan range.
    Some places to visit for all travellers, tourists and adventure lovers visiting Sikkim include:
1. NIT (National Institute of Tibetology)
2. Hanuman Tok and Ganesh Tok
3. Nathula Pass
4. Baba Harbajan Mandir

6. Rumtek Monastry

Various places of tourist interest and travel near to Sikkim include Darjeeling, also known as the 'Queen of the Hills' and Kalimpong. Darjeeling, other than its World famous 'Darjeeling tea' is also famous for its refined Prep school founded during the British Rule in India. A few of the top schools in the district of Darjeeling are:
1. St. Paul's School known as Eton of the East. It is 190 years old, thus one of the oldest schools in India.
2. Mount Hermon School, located in North Darjeeling, being a historic school.
3. St. Joseph School where the H.M. of Bhutan and the late H.M. of Nepal did their schooling.
4. Loreto Convent where Late Mother Teresa served for many years during her stay at Darjeeling.
5. Dr Graham's Homes, a large and historic school at Kalimpong.
6. St. Joseph's Convent, an all girls' school in Kalimpong.
7. St. Augustine's School, at Kalimpong, where myself the writer, pursued my education from, a historic school famous all over the world for its quality of education.
Kalimpong is famous for its Flora cultivation and is home to many internationally known Nurseries.
